The Legend of Dust Bunnies a Fairy's Tale w/ Book + Dust Bunny Giveaway

A review copy was provided

The Legend of Dust Bunnies a Fairy's Tale
by Michelle R. Eastman
illustrated by Kevin Richter

This is not a typical fairy tale, and Artie is not a typical fairy.

Artie is a misfit. His fellow Dust Fairies have a knack for dirtying people’s houses. They fire soot from their slingshots and enter crumb-spitting contests. While we sleep, they spread dust everywhere.

Artie doesn’t make messes. He has a unique habit of collecting things. The other Dust Fairies don’t appreciate Artie’s collection of tidbits, so he spends his nights alone.

One cold night, Artie’s loneliness leads to inspiration, and he creates something legendary.

His story will have families looking at Dust Bunnies in a new light and may actually give kids an excuse NOT to clean their rooms.

Artie’s story helps kids realize that we all have unique gifts and not everyone fits in with the crowd.

As you can tell this author is fantastic with words...and this book shows it perfectly!

This book has it all-- and a lesson too about being true to oneself and being unique.

Living It Down

A review copy was provided
Published by Walnut Springs

by Pamela S. Williams

Carrie Burke has it all-marriage to a successful lawyer, two lively teenage daughters, a beautiful home, the gospel. Why isn't she happy? Confused, joyless, and depressed, she questions her own worth and decides to take an unorthodox "time-out" to reevaluate her life. Her husband Morgan calls it selfish. Carrie calls it self-preservation.

Renting the basement apartment in Aunt Sophie's vintage Victorian home brings its own set of challenges, but also the advantage of friendship with vivacious, creative Lainie McGuire. Coincidence brings an old flame, Todd Kendall - a man Carrie never wanted to see again - back into her life. To guide her daughter through a moral crisis with a predatory boy, she realizes she needs the help of both Todd and Morgan.

In her spiritual quest to reconnect with her values and reclaim her best self, Carrie yearns to find joy again, and in the process discovers that maybe there's no such thing as coincidence.

My Review
I was impressed with how compelling this book was. You really feel for these characters!

This book touches on the sensitive issue of teen sex and pregnancy, but does so in a very respectful way. And I LOVED that the parents were the ones to teach their children...very well written.

It also touches on separation and divorce and shows that parents are not perfect and sometimes struggle too!

A beautiful book of forgiving, trying one's best, and learning along the way.
I will definitely read more from this author!

About the Author
Pamela Stott Williams is a native of Portland, Oregon, and a graduate of Brigham Young University. She has been a newspaper reporter, writing teacher, poet, playwright, essayist, editor, novelist and member of the League of Utah Writers and an LDS women's writers group, ANWA, the American Night Writers Association, so named because women writers often find time to write mostly after the children have gone to bed. Pam has won contest prizes from both groups for her work. She feels a particular calling to speak to Latter-day Saint readers about the challenges of being alive and living the gospel. As the nearly OCD Queen of Tweak, she rarely begins a sentence with "the," and shuns question marks at the end of rhetorical questions. Colorful Characters in Mormon History

A review copy was provided

by Kathryn Jenkins Gordon

Most Mormons are mild-mannered, well-behaved, law-abiding citizens who tend to get along well with their neighbors. But every once in a while, there's a renegade. You know the one: a little bit wild-eyed, ready to rumble, out to go where no Mormon has gone before. Face it: we all know one.

Well, if you think you've seen a colorful character or two in your ward, you should check out the colorful characters in this book some Mormons, some non-Mormons who impacted Church history. These people are a whole new breed of colorful.

You'll meet the guy who is credited with starting the gold rush and putting San Francisco on the map California's first millionaire, who dies selling pencils on the street. You'll meet the Mormon FBI agent who was killed in a shoot-out with Baby Face Nelson, but not before taking out the Baby. You'll gain a whole new appreciation for the General Authority who peppered his sermons with profanity. And that's just scratching the surface.

Most of all, you'll find yourself shaking your head in wonder,
having a knee-slapping good laugh,
and maybe even shedding a tear or two here and there.

My Review
This book is SO FASCINATING!
Wonderful tidbits about some very interesting people!

The author does a fabulous job of keeping you entertained while telling each person's story.

Some stories I had heard before...some stories were new for me...and some of these stories I had heard the 'fable' version instead of the 'fact' version...so glad she straightened that out :)

Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down! Such an amazing look at history and the people who helped shape it!

This is the 4th book I have read from this author-- I LOVE her style!

Perfect for the history buff or anyone who just likes to hear a really great story about a "colorful character."

Everville: The Fall of Brackenbone

A review copy was provided

Everville: The Fall of Brackenbone
by Roy Huff

Two very different worlds, Easton Falls University and the magical realm of Everville are in dire need of a hero. Owen Sage embarks on an epic journey of monumental proportions to save these worlds all while fighting to keep the world within himself intact. This quest is not for the faint of heart nor is it for the weak of mind—only the bravest will succeed. Discovering the well-kept secret of The Fourth Pillar of Truth is only part of the feat. Owen will have to outwit the ever-powerful villain Governor Jahal and overcome countless other challenges along the way.

Amongst all of the dragons, giants and grand chaos,
will Owen's acquired skills and wisdom be enough to save both worlds or will peril be the ultimate fate of all?

As Rathlar was about to embark on his daily trek, two small figures crept up behind him. Beads of sweat dripped from their faces. Step by step, they made a slow and deliberate approach. They eyed the dragon's position and timed their motions to coincide with the turns and departure of the massive creature. Armed with a cache of special tools and weapons, they inched their way toward the back entrance of the city, hoping to secretly enter.

Despite their stealth, Rathlar caught a glimmer of the two soldiers in the corner of his eye and sprang into action. He used his powerful legs to thrust his body high above the ground then spread his massive wings, turning in midair to face the trespassers and let forth a deafening roar and a fiery breath that scorched the clothing of those who were too close, filling the air with the smell of ash.

Rathlar lunged towards the group of Ubaloo soldiers and used his shape-shifting power to make the most intimidating face and fiercest growl any of them had ever seen.

Several of the Ubaloo warriors' knees buckled as they shrieked in fright and fell to the ground. The dirty water raced up the soldiers' legs, soaking them completely, washing away the stink of sweat and replacing it with the smell of wet mud. In that instant, terror seized the Ubaloo and for a moment they forgot why they were there.

Rathlar calmed his frightful face and allowed his features to melt into a genuine smile. His impenetrable leather skin lifted over his large sharp teeth as the broad grin morphed into a hearty chuckle.

The dragon's sudden transformation mesmerized the Ubaloo soldiers, who had frozen in place. A chorus of cheerful laughs soon followed.

"Excellent, Rathlar!" shouted the officer in charge of the dragon's training. "I don't think any creature stands a chance against such a might dragon."

My Review
A VERY FUN book!

So well written you feel as if you are right there!

Portrait of Lies

Coming Soon
by Clair M. Poulson

It was a robbery gone bad, or so they said. For Detective Trey Shotwell, the murder of his mother, a prominent artist, was the catalyst for setting aside his own artistic aspirations to pursue a career in law enforcement—despite the opposition of his father, also a famous painter. When he agrees to attend an art auction featuring his father's work, the cruise ship locale provides the relaxation that Trey needs—and when he meets stunning fellow passenger Ariah Stanton, the undeniable chemistry they share is an unexpected bonus.

But the tranquil voyage quickly turns into a nightmare at sea. The Shotwell paintings have disappeared, and amidst the chaotic hunt for the thief, a murderer is free to roam the halls of the ship. Ariah finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, and miraculously escapes the murderer—for now. But another victim is not so lucky...

The crime is eerily reminiscent of the death of Trey's mother so many years before. But this time, the young detective has the resources he needs to track the killer. As the pieces of the puzzle begin to come together, they paint the chilling picture of a sinister plot years in the making. In a manhunt that takes him from the high seas of the Pacific to the wilderness of Australia, Trey will stop at nothing to solve the crime and protect the woman he loves.

Meet Author Laura Briggs

Laura Briggs graduated from a Missouri liberal arts college in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Her passion for reading has inspired her to become a novelist. She has penned several Romance and Women’s Fiction novels, and hopes someday soon to dabble in the Mystery genre.

1) My first published story was available in eBook format only--even though I didn’t own an eReader for almost two years into my writing career!

2) One of my newest hobbies is growing pumpkins for fall decorating. I love the blue ‘Cinderella’ ones and plan to grow some of the crimson colored ones as well.

3) I still love to use old school technology sometimes, like records and VHS tapes.

4) Sense and Sensibility has been my favorite of Jane Austen’s novels, ever since I received a copy as a Christmas present in my teens.

5) Disney’s Aladdin was the first movie I saw at a movie theater.

6) Some of my current favorite TV shows are from PBS’ Mystery! and Masterpiece Theatre. I especially enjoy Sherlock, Endeavour, and Downton Abbey.

7) My guilty pleasure TV is the CW network’s costume drama Reign. I would love to own a gown like one of the gorgeous designs featured on the show!

8) World travel is a big dream of mine. I’ve been to England on a college trip, but we didn’t visit London, to my deep disappointment. I would love to see Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and Baker Street, among other sites.

9) In the summer, I like to reread the books I loved as a tween. Some of my favorites back then were mystery series, like The Spotlight Club and The Three Investigators.

10) I realized that despite all the fairs and theme parks I’ve visited through the years, I’ve never been on a Ferris Wheel.

Laura's book is a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s EMMA
with shades of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

Emma Benton—known as ‘Doctor Emma’—has a knack for advising the lovelorn and lonely on her radio show Heart Therapy. Em’s sympathetic manner and spot-on instincts provide the perfect answers, or so claims her boyfriend, the handsome and clever psychologist Frank, her producer Isabel, and her ever-expanding audience of listeners.

But Doctor Colin Ferris disagrees. During a guest segment on Em’s show, he challenges her advice on the air and offends her personally in their brief, private exchanges. Rude and pretentious, he’s the last person Em would imagine as the author of a best-selling guide on being a gentleman in modern times. He’s also the last person she would choose to work with—but Fate makes that decision before Em can avoid it.

In her worst PR nightmare ever, Em finds herself paired with Colin in a reality show quest to help a romantically-challenged young woman. Shy, awkward Harriet Smith needs more than just a little advice, but can two people so vastly different in their opinions really help her? As Em struggles to find common ground with Colin, she learns there’s more to him than meets the eye…and maybe more between them than opposing ideas about love.

The Charity Chip

A review copy was provided

by Brock Booher

Life on the streets of Lima is already difficult for Julio, but now that digital money has replaced hard currency, survival is virtually impossible.

Isak comes to his rescue and offers him a chance at a better life through a hi-tech humanitarian program. The only catch is a microchip implanted between the thumb and forefinger of the hand.

At first life improves dramatically, but when another participant dies mysteriously, Julio suspects that the chip does more than just dispense charity.

Now he must uncover the truth behind the charity chip before someone else suffers the same fate.

From the Back Cover
Isak held up his left hand and ran his finger along the space between his thumb and forefinger.
"This area of the hand has just enough room to house the chip I designed for the program. It allows the participants access to the Caritas facility and also serves as an individualized money chip. It has been affectionately dubbed the charity chip."

Julio, a fourteen-year-old orphan, has spent years doing whatever it takes to survive on the streets. When he meets Isak Blixt, the creator of the Charity Chip program, he thinks his problems are over. The program provides needy children with food, schooling, clothes, everything--for free!

But Julio soon discovers that nothing comes without a price. And the truth about the charity chip is anything but charitable.

This fast-paced mystery is full of twists and turns that will keep you hooked until the very last page.

My Review
WOW! This book is AMAZING!

Filled with beautifully written descriptive details you will feel the emotions of each character...especially Julio-

Life can be hard and sometimes it looks like you have found a way to make it better...But is it truly the better way?

Once you start this book don't plan on doing anything else for it will capture you and hold your attention and you will not be able to put it down until you reach the very end :)

A gripping tale!
Do not miss out on this one!

Discussion Questions
While these questions are meant to be discussed after you have read the book I feel that they address some very important decisions and can be benefited from-even before reading-- and hopefully they will also spark and even greater interest in reading this PHENOMENAL BOOK!

1. What is the value of a life? Are some lives more valuable than others? Why or why not?

2. How did you feel about Julio's promise to take care of his twin brother? How far does our responsibility to help others go?

3. Is Isak trying to do a good thing, or is he simply after the profits?

4. What would you do to solve world hunger? Will your solution place more value on one life than another? Will our solution strip other people of their rights?

5. Is it okay for Julio to steal in order to survive? How far would you be willing to go in order to survive?

6. If you could have a money chip implanted, would you? Why or why not?

7. How important is sports in your life? If you had to choose between a family event and the big game, which would you choose?

8. How has technology made your life better? How has it made your life worse?

9. What would you do to help Doctor Barilla overcome his addiction?

About the Author
Terry R. Baker was born in Ontario, Oregon, and completed degrees at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. After teaching LDS seminary classes for three years he joined the Army and served as an LDS Army chaplain. He was deployed to Vietnam and while there became interested in why so many soldiers’ marriages ended in divorce. In hopes of finding answers to this question, he returned from the war and completed a PhD in Family Studies and Marriage and Family Counseling at BYU. He then taught LDS Institute classes in California, Texas and Utah. In 1995 he was assigned by the Church Educational System to re-write the curricula for the dating, courtship and marriage classes taught in institute classes world-wide. He finished this assignment in 2000, returned to teaching at the Institute of Religion adjacent to the University of Utah and retired in 2010. This book presents lessons learned from over 40 years of research, teaching and counseling LDS youth and adults and soldiers about dating, courtship and marriage principles. It also represents many of the curricula ideas that could not be included in the current LDS institute manuals because of space limitations.

Terry met Parry Robinson in 1962 at the University of Utah where he had a scholarship to play football and basketball and Patty was a cheerleader. After a mission to Southern Australia Terry married Patty in 1965. They have eight children and an expanding posterity of 23 grandchildren as of 2014.

~~ Veils and Vengeance ~~
by Rachelle J. Christensen

When wedding planner Adrielle Pyper orchestrates a destination ceremony in Hawaii, she’s prepared for anything—except murder.

After the trauma of her last event, the beautiful isle of Kauai is the perfect place for Adri to unwind and do what she does best – plan. She even lets herself indulge in the attention of the groom’s handsome brother. But just when everything seems to be perfect, an afternoon snorkeling trip turns deadly when Adri discovers the body of a young woman.

Shaken, but unable to let go, Adri’s sleuthing leads her into more danger than she bargained for. When a number of “accidents” threaten her own life, it soon becomes apparent that someone will do anything to keep Adri from interfering with their vengeance.

by Krista Lynne Jensen

Georgie Tate is a survivor. She's survived an abusive relationship. She's survived the car accident that took the life of her controlling fiancé. Now she just needs to survive the memories that haunt her. Escaping to her aunt's cozy home on a tiny island outside of Seattle, Georgie finds just the change of pace she needs to pick up the pieces of her life. Taking a job at a local seafood restaurant is the first step in reclaiming her sense of self, but she is completely unprepared for the battle that awaits her there.

Jace Lowe has loved and lost, and he's determined that it will never happen again. Hardened by heartbreak, he stays focused on his work as a sous chef at one of the island's top seafood restaurants. When beautiful Georgie takes her place on the restaurant's staff, Jace is resolved to keep her at arm's length, and his downright rudeness her first week goes a long way in achieving that goal. Georgie, on the other hand, doesn't want anything to do with Jace anyway and prickles against his abrasive behavior. As the combative pair comes together on a joint project for the restaurant, they find their distaste for one another dwindling. The connection is undeniable, and it terrifies them both. Can two people jaded by the past be softened by the promise of once-in-a-lifetime love, or is this just another recipe for disaster?

My Review
I love how real this story is!

Two people feeling broken from their past--coming together to work on a common goal--And while in each other's company they relax and find a peace and a happiness and a completeness...

But yet the past still haunts them and they still have much to work on--yet isn't that how life is?

This story was written with a passion that expresses the plot beautifully.

A roller-coaster of feelings and awkward moments and saying the wrong thing and hurtful moments and trying to live up to someone else's expectations and finding strength of oneself and finding love with someone else.

I LOVED each page!
I HIGHLY recommend this book!

About the Author
Nearly every one of Krista Lynne Jensen’s elementary school teachers noted on her report card that she was a “day-dreamer”. It was not a compliment. So, when Krista grew up, she put those daydreams down on paper for others to enjoy. When she’s not writing she enjoys reading, hiking, her family, and sunshine. But not laundry. She never day-dreams about laundry.
